Few were saved in high grade, and this one has clean surfaces for the grade assigned.

1838-O Liberty Seated Dime. No stars. MS-63. Bright white and lustrous, with a sharp strike for this early type coin. We note some minor rim breaks on the obverse where the die has started to crumble. If you need this type, the here is an admirable coin to purchase.

Lot 725
1845-O Liberty Seated Dime. PCGS graded MS-62. Here is an extremely rare coin in Mint State. In fact PCGS reports on 2 such coins, this one and a MS-69 (!). Although we have no information, we suspect that the MS-69 could possibly be an error of some sort, but you never know, perhaps there is one monster gem dime of this date out there in coin land. Whatever. We do have a downright nice one here too, the devices are well frosted, the fields are even a bit prooflike. There are some scattered handling marks expected for the grade, and we note the strike is quite strong throughout. Identifiable by one tiny stain on the edge below the reverse right ribbon end. Untoned and quite pleasing overall. An important rarity in this grade and worthy of a strong bid.
Estimated Value $9,000 - 10,000.

Lot 726
1847 Liberty Seated Dime. NGC graded MS-65. One of the finest of this entire year, this coin is the finest graded by NGC, and alone in the MS-65 category. PCGS has graded one higher as MS-66, but none in MS-65 according to the respective Population Reports. This one is toned a deep blue with gold highlights on both sides and is very sharply struck. Note the faint die cracks through the peripheral devices and how few handling marks are present. One tiny field nick is visible between the inside two points of the twelfth star. An important coin for the specialist who demands one of the finest available for a date set.
Estimated Value $7,000 - 8,000.

Lot 727
1848 Liberty Seated Dime. MS-62 Possible Proof Striking. This coin is from the "Pennsylvania Cabinet" and is a possible proof. We'll be conservative though and simply call it Mint State and let the market decide. The fields are reflective and the dies show heavy polishing lines. As to the strike, it is not as sharp as we would like to see for a proof, and there is weakness on the upper left of the wreath.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.

Lot 728
1853 Liberty Seated Dime. No arrows. PCGS graded MS-64. With a mintage of 95,000 one would expect that this would be a very rare coin in high grade. However, there was a small hoard of these that were distributed by Harold P. Newlin before 1883, and most mint state survivors probably trace back to that group. This one has steel gray surfaces and is lightly toned. Boldly struck throughout, especially on the stars and Liberty's head. PCGS has graded 24 this high, with 21 in various grades higher.
Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,250.

Lot 729
1853 Liberty Seated Dime. Arrows. NGC graded MS-65. A classic gem coin, the surfaces are steel gray with darker tones around the periphery, light at the centers. Always popular as a type coin, the with arrows were only used briefly to reduce the silver content of most silver denominations (except for the dollar, curiously) to below face value. Prior to 1853, silver had virtually disappeared from circulation, as it could be taken from circulation, melted down, and sold at a small profit.
Estimated Value $1,200 - 1,400.

PCGS has graded 24 as such, with just 3 higher of the date, making this one of the best around. Check it out, and you will soon agree that it is a wonderful coin for the advanced collector.
Estimated Value $900 - 1,000.

1861 Liberty Seated Dime. PCGS graded MS-64. A mate to the coin just offered, this example has the same steel gray color with frosted devices and offsetting fields. This presents an opportunity to compare an MS-64 to an MS-65 to sharpen ones grading skills. Both are excellent coins.
Estimated Value $350 - 450.

1866 Liberty Seated Dime. PCGS graded Proof 64. Deep lilac and gold color on both sides set this coin apart. The surfaces beneath the toning appear smooth and show virtually no signs of contact. As a proof, the devices are very sharp and this coin is nearly a full gem. Just 725 coined in proof.

1877-CC Liberty Seated Dime. NGC graded MS-65. A surprisingly common date, even in this grade. NGC reports 54 graded as such, with 30 graded higher. This particular coin has deep frost on the devices and prooflike fields. We note minor handling marks visible with a glass, but the quality is really something special for a "CC" coin. One for the type or date collector.

1884-S Liberty Seated Dime. NGC graded MS-66. This coin has only a single specimen listed higher by NGC, that being the Pittman MS-68 monster coin. Nevertheless, this MS-66 is nothing to sneeze at! Blast white in color, with frosted devices and pristine fields that show few signs of handling, even under the scrutiny of a strong glass. If you demand a special coin of this date, then take a look at this superb example.

1885-S Liberty Seated Dime. PCGS graded MS-63. One of the key dates of the Liberty Seated series, the reported mintage was just 43,690. With modern computers and tallying instruments, PCGS has noted just 31 have been graded of this date, 31 coins in all. How many were uncirculated? So far, just 5, one in each of the following grades: MS-61; MS-62; MS-63 (this coin); MS-64, MS-65 and MS-66. This would certainly make a nice grading set, if you could afford to round up all the coins! Sharply struck by the dies, and we note good luster and clean surfaces throughout. An important coin for the specialist, and one that will certainly see considerable, and well deserved, attention.
Estimated Value $5,000 - 6,000.

1891 Liberty Seated Dime. PCGS graded MS-66. One of the finest graded of the date, PCGS has awarded 32 this high, with just 2 coins graded higher (both MS-67). This coin is a variety 102 with a double tail on the 9 in the date, per Brian Greer's book on Liberty Seated Dimes, which is fairly common as a variety, but downright spectacular as an MS-66! Light gold toning on the left side of the obverse, and deeper gold and blue on the left side of the reverse, strong luster and excellent surfaces throughout. In an old green insert PCGS holder.
